Victoria Wulsin

Party: Democrat
State: Ohio - 2nd District
Race results: Victoria Wulsin was a strong candidate, but in the end was unable to beat incumbent Rep. Jean Schmidt.

In Ohio, Victoria Wulsin is facing off against conservative firebrand Rep. Jean Schmidt (R).

"For the amount that the people of this Congressional District have already spent on the war, we could be providing health care for over 300,000 people or hiring nearly 20,000 teachers."

Wulsin is an epidemiologist who has dedicated her career to public health, working at the community level in Cincinnati and leading international projects around the world. She ran against Schmidt in 2006 and lost by only 2,500 votes. Polls show she is a strong position to win the rematch this year.

Wulsin believes that the United States needs to set benchmarks for progress for the Iraqi government and have a plan to bring U.S. troops home safely and quickly. On the campaign trail, she has called foul on the defense contracting practices that give no-bid, no-accountability contracts to companies like Blackwater and Halliburton.

Wulsin is also a strong supporter of investing in clean, renewable energy. "Gas prices are too high. We should reduce our dependence on foreign oil and reduce our dependence on the foreign powers that provide it," she said.

Victoria's opponent scored a measly 27% on PeacePAC's last voting scorecard. You might remember that he garnered national attention by calling Vietnam War veteran Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) a “coward” on the House floor because he advocated withdrawal from Iraq. Prior to that incident, Schmidt was known mostly as a vigorous anti-abortion advocate.

Victoria Wulsin can bring a progressive voice and a lifetime of experience serving the public to Congress. Help her win today!
