HELP SPREAD THE WORD
We’ve been successful in getting the word out all across the country about our work in Washington, where we lobby on behalf of the American people to end the war in Iraq, call for the use of direct diplomacy with Iran, and work to reduce nuclear weapons and adopt sensible national security policies. But, we need your help to help us increase our impact even more. Help us by sending our information to 5 of your friends or contacts. Click here.
START LOBBYING -- NOW
You don’t have to wait for us to send you information. The best way you can use your voice is to use it. Contact your representatives to set up a meeting or call or write your representative. Don’t know who they are or where they are? Click here and we’ll help you find them. We have a list of issues that need attention in Congress – which will come through contacting your representatives and letting them know how you feel. Check out some good tips for when you write, call or meet with your representatives. If you’d like more information about the issues, go to our sister organization’s website, Center for Arms Control and Non Proliferation, for background and current information on our issues.
Here’s some current legislation that you can help us with:
Don’t let Bush establish a permanent presence in Iraq and tie the hands of our next president! Tell your representative to co-sponsor H.R. 5626, which will prohibit Bush from making a long-term security commitment in Iraq without the approval of Congress.
Help Congress stop a Dangerous Nuclear Deal between the United States and India. This House resolution (H. Res 711) expresses the sense that the United States should stop its nuclear trade with India if India tests a nuclear weapon again, an act which would weaken the cornerstone of nuclear non-proliferation efforts, the Non-Proliferation Treaty, or NPT.
LEAD THE MOVEMENT IN YOUR COMMUNITY
Across the country there are thousands of progressive, grassroots organizations that advocate for an end to the Iraq war, diplomacy with Iran, a reduction in nuclear weapons, and overall sensible international security policies. If you lead one of those groups or are part of one of those groups, we want to partner with you. We’ll work together to further our shared goal as we’ll have to rely on local grassroots organizations to get the movement running in everywhere from Oregon to Montana to New Jersey. You help us in local communities, and we’ll help you get your organization heard in Washington. Contact Ashley Hoffman, outreach coordinator, at ahoffman@clw.org.
LEAD THE MOVEMENT ON YOUR CAMPUS
Throughout history, it has been largely youth that have got the wave of public opinion moving on progressive issues: nuclear weapons, the Vietnam War, global warming, the list goes on. Write to us and let us know if you are interested in setting up a student group against the war in Iraq, nuclear weapons or other security issues. Or, if you are a part of a group that wants to work with us, you can let us know that too. Contact Ashley Hoffman, outreach coordinator, at ahoffman@clw.org.
